With a little help from my friends
Teamwork is one of if not the most important stuff when comes to working on group projects. In this project we’re tasked to finish an application from a client, which can be considered as a big scale task and when working on a big scale task it would be better to work as a team rather than as an individual.
In this case me and my team has the upper hand on being friends from way before the project started, it helped a lot since it’s a lot easier to bond with your friends rather than with someone you barely know.
When working as a team we are always hearing about team dynamics, but what is it?
What is team dynamics?
Team dynamics is the behavioral relationships between team members which include how they interact, communicate and cooperate. All of those things factor a lot into what and how much the team can accomplish.
Some positive team dynamics
There are some core competencies to make your team perform and work better, which are:
- Alignment, every team members has the same vision of how the projects would go and what are their goals. This helps lessen tension between team members since they’re working toward the same thing and having the same mindset and goals would help a lot.
- Transparency, sharing every information with your team mates is very important, it would always help if we have all the information before or when working on something. Having everything open also helps grow trust between each other and would result in less conflicts.
- Accountability, when making a mistake everyone should own up to their mistake and try to fix their mistake. It would quick up the process and go straight to problem solving rather than blame it on each other when something goes wrong, it would also help gain respect to each other.
How to build team dynamics
- Team bonding, it’s always important to be able to talk and engage with your team mates. If you’re an extrovert start this by making conversation with your team mates and if you’re an introvert then you can try to open up and not shying away. Communication is a two way street, so remember to engage.
- Respect, this one seems like a no brainer but sometimes this rule is broken. Remember that everyone has their own boundaries so make sure that you don’t cross that boundaries. This will help to lessen conflicts between team mates.
- Include everyone, of course in a group there are some pairs that closer with each other than with the others. But always try to include everyone in the activity especially when there’s only one member left. This could apply in simple activity like eating lunch or playing some games when on a break.
- Share Information, like I’ve mentioned above sharing information is very important in a group projects. It would build trust and respect around the group, and would smooth the work process.
- Do something outside work, we as a human can’t always be expected to work all the time so some outside work activity is needed. Especially with your team mates, it could be helpful to look at your team mates outside of work settings and it would build team dynamics as well.
That’s all from me on team dynamics, hopefully has helped you!
See you soon!
